..A Mothers Day to Remember | PS I Love You..

Last night, Brad and I had the chance to go bowling with some friends that he went to school with and now work with at Wright Patt.  We had a blast and I had so much fun bowling with a little one inside of me!  It was a unique workout and I’m sure feeling it today.  Right before the end of our night together, one of the guys I had never met before put his hand on my shoulder and said, “Happy Early Mother’s Day.”  It was really sweet and thoughtful of him to say that.  After the bowling alley, we drove home to check the mail and there laid a card for me.  My sister Veronica sent me a card stating, “Baby hasn’t arrived yet, but in your heart and under it, you’re already a mom.”  I called her today and thanked her for the card, I hadn’t realized it until both of those happenings that I actually was already becoming a mom.

I know with as exciting as it is to be carrying a little being inside of me, it’s even more nerve racking to think about being in charge of raising him or her to be a model citizen.  The lucky part of that is, that I have a TON of great examples to live by when it comes to being a Mom.  On my website it currently states, “To my four sisters who have taught me what it is like to be a sister, an aunt, a wife, and SOMEDAY a mom, thank you.”  I realize that this statement is going to have to change, because they each have already taught me so much.  Veronica became a mother instantly after marrying her husband Eddie and his daughter Alehia.  Becoming a mother to a teenager right away can be challenging and rewarding all at the same time.  Denise had two beautiful daughters of her own, Kayla & Paige and also became a step-mom of two boys from her husband Dave, Mikey & Joey.  Having a house full of 4 teenagers and pre-teens would be much of the same for her.  Nicole had her first son Seth while in college and she mothers him as a young adult now, while juggling 5 year old Lance and 2 year old Braylee with her husband Chad.  What a difference in ages and learning experience that has been for me.  My youngest sister Lollie isn’t married yet, but has played an active role in mothering her boyfriend Caleb’s son, Ridley.  For her at first it was hard to say yes to date a guy that had a child, but she has already learned so much in what it takes to be a mom.  I am so proud of each of them and how they have been active in their roles of raising the children that have been broughten to them.

I also have two grandmothers whom have set and active role in childbearing.  My Grandma Vargas whom I have never really had the chance to know, still has taught me from a far how to be a Mom.  All of my life she has lived in Texas, where a visit every couple of years wasn’t enough to quite get to know one another.  She however, had and raised 9 of her own children.  That’s right ladies, NINE!  She also became a mother to my grandpa’s child to make it lucky number 10.  I can imagine the chaos in that household with all of them running around, and knowing my Dad probably mis-behaving!  My Grandma Hengst mothered four of her own and helped raise me when I was little.  My Mom was lucky enough to have her babysit me and Lollie when we were young.  She became such an intrical part of my life, teaching me how to cook waffles and french toast that my Mom refused to prepare, making me do summer math lessons against my will, and occupying my time with the arts and crafts of learning to knit and sew.  I was so thankful to have her and some of my greatest memories were waiting for her to cook lunch right after Price is Right was over!

However, above all the other Mom influences in my life NONE of them has been greater than Mom herself.  She is the woman who defied all odds in a ‘man’s world.’  They told her she would never climb the corporate ladder because she was a woman, and after year’s and year’s of work I watched her do it.  She is the woman who taught me NEVER to make a promise you couldn’t keep.  She is the woman who taught me how to be insanely organized in every facet of life.  She is the woman who showed me that what everyone else thought of me growing up didn’t matter.  She is the woman who taught me how to be a wife to a husband I love.  She is the Mom who taught me to never give up in anything I do and to do nothing but follow my dreams, including owning my own business.  She is the one who pushed me to get a college degree to make a better life for myself.  She is the one who wiped away my tears, kissed my bruised knees, and cheered me on at endless volleyball games, track meets, choir concerts, and piano recitals.  She is the one who has covered me in all of life’s lessons, circumstances, and anything that is and shall come.  I’m proud to call her Mom and I couldn’t be more excited about what she has yet to teach me about being one myself.  I love you Mom!

Of course there are many more Mom’s in my life including my Mother-in-Law and best friends, I appreciate all that each of you have taught me as well.  I wish each and every one of you a very Happy Mother’s Day!  Love you all!!

..DIY Baby Mobile | Just Because..

When we found out that we were pregnant, I was in a whirlwind on what we would do for a theme in the baby’s room.  I am VERY much a planner, so not finding out the gender of our baby has been a challenge for me.  Although I made a promise that we wouldn’t find out, it made it very hard for me to imagine a nursery.  I already knew if I had a boy or girl how I wanted to design the room and thought I could do it all after the baby was born.  I was quickly brought back into reality after realizing that newborn babies require almost 24-7 surveillance.  So how was I suppose to decorate a nursery from head-to-toe if that was going to be my primary job for the first couple of weeks?  It wasn’t…despite the fact that I believed I could be super Mom in some amazing form that no other woman has been before, I knew it wasn’t possible.  Who am I kidding anyways?

So my next step of action was to find a neutral theme that I actually liked.  Not an easy task when I already had these pre-spun ideas floating around in my head.  After finding the bedding we knew that couldn’t get any more neutral, I started dreaming up a room in my brain.  One Saturday while Brad went golfing, I sat in the corner chair of the office rearranging the furniture in my head and imagining where everything would go.  I even drew up a floor plan down to the last detail of where things would hang on the walls and even invisioning what furniture would contain what.  I gained a TON of inspiration from ..HGTV.. rate my space nursery style, and it helped raise the weight off my shoulders about not having a theme designed specifically for a boy or a girl.  I knew I wanted a modern look containing a slight contemporary flair.

I don’t plan on revealing Baby D’s room until it is completely finished, however I did want to share one other little piece that will be hanging from the nursery ceiling.  After gaining all the fantastic ideas from HGTV I decided I wanted to make a baby mobile for my little one.  I can tell you I had absolutely no instructions and just made it up as I went.  I walked into JoAnn Fabrics and found ribbon, scrapbook paper, super glue, wooden stars, wood paint, a wooden handle meant for purses, and got started from there.  I painted all the stars either yellow or white and then matched them with scrapbook paper for the back.  Once they were all cut out and ready for each star, I lined them up and ran the ribbon down the back of the painted stars with super glue.  From there I used the scrapbook paper to cover up the back that was unpainted.  Each string of stars was then hung from the wooden purse handle, where I designed a ribbon hanger featuring a large star at the top.  It took me a few days to put it all together working a little at a time, but all around with no directions and pure ingenious effort I came up with this beautiful little handmade piece for Baby D.

..Baby Montgomery | Oh Baby..

This last weekend, two absolutely amazing friends came to visit Brad and I in Beavercreek!  Not only did they come to grab some yummy Chick-fil-A for lunch, but they made the two hour trek from Toledo for a maternity session!  Like most of the Midwest, it has been raining and dreary for days on end!  Not Saturday!  Saturday was beautiful, warm, sprinkled with a cool breeze, and most of all…SUNSHINE!  Ahhh, I bask in just the thought!

We made our way to this adorable and quaint little park I found about 3 miles from our place, and began our session!  You may remember Mark and Erica from their uber fun ..Take Two Anniversary Shoot.. back in September.  Shortly after this session took place, Mark and Erica revealed the amazing news of their pregnancy!  Perfect timing to get that dress back on before their first baby made it’s way into the world!

Erica contacted me months ago to get her maternity session on the books and it was a good thing.  My availability between now and baby is almost all gone!  During our time together we laughed, related our pregnancies, and shared stories about names and other fun things.  It was so great to have that time together before Baby Montgomery makes his OR her debut.  That’s right, just like us they have chosen to keep the baby gender a surprise till birth!  I can’t wait…

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined Thank you Mark and Erica for coming to visit, for being super cool friends, and for allowing me to document one more piece of your journey in life.

..Jared & Jessica Album Design | Album Show Off..

I mentioned that last year due to starting my business I didn’t have time for much past the basics.  This winter I completely revamped the way that I complete my album design, and I am pretty proud of how it’s going so far.  It sure makes my work flow A LOT easier!

In July last year, the 30th to be exact, ..Jared and Jessica.. said ‘I do’ in one of the most beautiful places I have photographed to date.  They chose Mentor Harbor Yacht Club as the ceremony site to exchange their vows.  The crashing of the waves, the steal drums, and the seagulls overhead were enough to set the scene for the lovely afternoon.  It turned out to be an exquisite evening as the bridal party, guests, and newly wed couple enjoyed their time in celebration.

I wanted to share again some of The Martin’s day before I hop into the thick of this year’s wedding season!  Love all the details…

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined Can’t wait to show you more of the designs I have been working on!  Until next week…enjoy the beautiful weekend ahead!

..Elise & Bryan 4.17.11 Part II | We Said I Do..

After we braved the cold for the ..Portrait Session.. everyone had a little bit of time to relax and freshen up before the signing of the Ketubah (Jewish Marriage Contract.)  We entered into the beautifully lit sun room where some of the portraits were taken, as we joined in a private and intimate ceremony with immediate family and the Rabbi.  Bryan and Elise each stood with their parents at their side, as they listened to the Rabbi read the Ketubah first in Hebrew and then again in English.  It was a beautiful piece that they had created especially for them, containing the place where they were engaged in artwork.  After Elise and Bryan were charged by the terms of their Ketubah, they signed the piece that would be displayed during the ceremony and on the wall of their home.  The parents followed up by blessing their children with words of wisdom and love.

Soon after all the guests had arrived, they moved into the gleaming white tent that was to house their ceremony and reception for the afternoon.  The violinist began to strum a lovely number as each bridesmaid and groomsmen came in.  Bryan was escorted by his parents and Elise by hers.  She was then handed over to her husband-to-be as the ceremony finally began.  As a greeting they circled each other seven times, symbolically protecting one another and binding themselves together before they were invited under the Chuppah (The Wedding Canopy.)  They proceeded through the exchange of rings, blessings, and the reading of the Ketubah.  Like most ceremonies, the end was near and almost official.  Rabbi Aaron handed over the glass which was wrapped in cloth while Bryan made sure it was far enough away from his bride, he lifted his foot and smashed the glass with one hard stomp.  The crowd of guests shouted, “Mazel Tov!” and Bryan swept Elise up in a kiss.  They made their way down the aisle as husband and wife and entered into Yihud, which is the final requirement of the marriage ceremony – to spend the first hour together alone!

Once Yihud was completed, everyone joined back under the tent for a seated meal, toasts, cake cutting, and of course the traditional Jewish dancing.  Bryan and Elise were raised up in the chairs above everyone, as their family and friends literally circled them below.  Their day was nothing short of fun and memories.  I enjoyed my time with  both of these families and hope that I can join them again in the future!
