..Getting Ready Bridal Tips | All Eyes On You..

It’s one of my favorite parts of the day and the very first that I walk into.  The bride is putting the final touches on her hair and makeup up and the groom is being jostled around by friends.  Each in their own way getting ready for the big moment to see each other for the first time!  Whether that be down the aisle or during a first look, regardless of how you choose to see each other, there are many things that can make your getting ready photos as outstanding as they can be!  In my promise to help give you the best, I have decided that every now and then I will give you a bridal tip or two to make your day go even smoothly and more beautiful than you could have imagined.  So here we go……!

Natural Light: It’s the most beautiful light you can photograph with.  If possible, choose to get dressed in a room that has plenty of windows and great light flowing in.  A great way to combat those fluorescent lights are to get ready in an upstairs room that has large windows, such as a hotel room for example.  If you choose to get ready in your home, find the best lit room in the house…even if it’s the bathroom!

Light Meal: There are times where brides or grooms are too nervous to eat before the big moment.  This is all too important and I will say it over and over, make sure there is something to eat!  In the past I have seen sandwich trays, crackers and cheese, or fruit spreads.  The long and short of it, just be sure that there is something available for you and your bridal party to eat.  Never fails on a hot day to see one or two bridal party members get a little ‘woozy’ at the alter.  Make sure water and hydrating fluids are also present!

Preparation: After everyone has their hair and makeup done for the ladies and showers for the gents, be sure to clean up your space.  This allows for no clutter in the back of your photos as well as having everything ready to grab after the ceremony is over.  If possible place all of your bags back in your vehicle or in a pile ready for the limo or party bus when it arrives!

Details: When I arrive I take a few minutes to say hello both to the bride and the groom to let you know I am present.  Shortly after, my assistant of the day and I are darting around capturing all those details you put into your day.  We like to capture the church or ceremony site, your dress, the rings, flowers, programs, and any other special mementos.  So don’t forget to have all of the above with you for portraits!

Unique Ideas: Other than making sure all of those items are ready and available at your getting ready location, think about a few more unique details to make your day special!  One of my favorites are custom made ..Dress Hangers.. with your future name woven in the wire.  Another, having your ring bearer or flower girl carry a ..Here Comes The Bride Sign.., how adorable is that?  Or how about a change up?  I have seen brides wear a veil for the ceremony and then replace it with a ..Floral Headpiece.. to accent the evening!  Guys, what about a pair of ..Converse Shoes.. to replace those uncomfortable rents?

undefinedundefined The possibilities are endless!  I can’t wait to see what you come up with for your special day!

..Tim & Kathy Part II | We Said I Do..

Oh my goodness what a lovely weekend it was!  So much time with friends and family!  After Tim and Kathy’s beautiful ceremony in the log cabin chapel, which was tucked into the Wyoming landscape, they headed to ..Dornan’s.. for their very charming outdoor reception.  It too had one heck of a view from the mountains and couldn’t even be put into words when the sun set through the mountain pass.

The setting couldn’t have been more perfect for the landscape that surrounded us!  Everything from wagon wheels, horse shoes, and wooden tables to first dances, a tabletop serenade, and an outrageous game show!  Yep you heard correctly!  The night started off like any other reception with the usual first dances, while dinner followed with the most amazing ‘down-home’ gourmet spreads.  Tim and Kathy requested their family and friends to provide their first wedding dance songs and had them each played while enjoying the evening meal.  It was too sweet watching each couple get up and dance to their ‘first dance song’ as dinner was taking place.  Then Kathy surprised us all, which is not abnormal in any way, and stood up on top of her seat and began to sing to Tim across the table.  Everyone laughed at how ‘movie-like’ it all was.  Tim followed suit shortly after, and they were both standing above us all just singing to one another!

After the serenade and everyone was full from head to toe, another interesting twist to the night came into play!  Tim had one of his good friends come and perform a game show that he tends to host on cruise ships, corporate get together’s, and various other events.  It was called BONK, an all too hilarious game show, where in order to answer you had to hit yourself or the person next to you on the head to answer the question.  You couldn’t hit too softly otherwise it wouldn’t give you first chance to answer.  Needless to say it kept everyone laughing and entertained for the evening…including the kids!

Tim and Kathy, THANK YOU sooo much for allowing me to come to Wyoming and be with you during such a momentous time in your life!  It was certainly something I will never forget!  I wish you the best marriage and hope that my images will always remind you of how much you love each other!  Thank you to the Badowski and Hill families for being so wonderful and flying out to be with Tim and Kathy, they certainly appreciated it!  See the rest of the images in a week or so 🙂

..Tim & Kathy Part I | We Said I Do..

I met Kathy when I was in Kindergarten or First Grade (can’t remember which,) during Sibs N’ Kids weekend at Bowling Green.  My ‘famous’ sister Nicole, (whom a lot of you have met at EBD weddings) was her college roommate.  I can remember waking the two of them up EARLY on a Saturday morning wanting breakfast.  At their age all they were wanting to do was sleep in, but I wouldn’t let them while my stomach was growling!  Looking back at it, I felt sorry for them!  I don’t like mornings in general, let alone being a college student waking up to a hungry 5 or 6 year old.  Needless to say, I woke them up even before the dining halls were open and they pleaded with me to go back to sleep.  Thus began the journey of Kathy and I’s friendship.  Even though we are years apart, she was always coming ‘home’ to visit Nicole and the kids.  I always rejoiced in seeing her and love her energetic and outgoing personality that always keeps us laughing.

After college Kathy became a traveling nurse, and made her way around the country to all of the different opportunities she always wanted.  After many years of doing so, there became a void in her life.  She knew that she was ready to come home to Cleveland and find someone to settle down with.  After many dates with men that she didn’t feel were the right fit for her, she decided to put a profile on match.com!  There were a couple of guys who peaked her interest, but when she met Tim, she knew she had found the one she was looking for.  He was tall…and Kathy being tall herself, knew it was a requirement… handsome of course, and funny!!  She needed someone who would compliment her easy going and quirky behavior!  Tim definitely fit the part!

After falling in love with each other, and Tim proposing on a private beach in ..Geneva State Park.., they chose to start planning their wedding.  Plans came underway, but they just couldn’t find the perfect fit in Cleveland.  After remembering a trip across country 10 years earlier with her cousin Brenda to ..Grand Teton National Park.., Kathy thought that would be the perfect spot!  You see Brenda and Kathy thought that would be the perfect location ‘to get married one day’ after visiting the quaint little ..Chapel of the Sacred Heart.. Just a few short months after their trip, Brenda got diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma.  Four years later she lost her battle with the awful skin cancer.  In remembrance of Brenda on Tim and Kathy’s wedding day, they wore blue bracelets with the word ‘REMEMBER.’  After all, Brenda played a huge part in planning the wedding in Wyoming!

So there we were on June 17th in the middle of the beautiful mountain scape views, the wildlife all around, and the crisp October like air!  Kathy walks out all giddy and makes her way towards Tim.  Tim stands in anticipation as he hears Kathy closing in behind him.  The moment was so close and you could tell he couldn’t wait to turn around and see her!  Then it came, a tap on the shoulder and his glowing bride stood before him in all of her beauty!  They embraced and laughed like children in their excitement.  I LOVED it and was holding back tears trying to capture it all.  After the moment they were waiting for occurred, we made our way towards the chapel, breaking at some spots to capture them and all their bliss against the picturesque backgrounds.

..Seth Jordan | Star Senior..

This post is SOOO special to me and I’m going to do my best not to cry writing it!!  These pregnancy hormones have my emotions all over the place right now.  Thank you Baby D….anyways… Today I get to introduce to you probably the most amazing young man I know!  He is an awesome football player, baseball star, and honorary student.  More importantly he is my nephew, the oldest of five, and already awaiting high school graduation this next year.  (This is where I’m trying not to cry….)

A little over 18 years ago, when I was in 3rd grade (Yes, I said 3rd grade!) my beautiful sister, Nicole came home from college with the news that a baby was on the way.  I didn’t quite understand her, because I thought out loud, “I was her baby.”  See, Nicole helped a great deal in raising me and my sister Lollie while living at home and graduating high school herself.   She helped alongside my mom in giving me baths, teaching me Hooked-On-Phonics against her will, and watching Little Mermaid, My Little Pony, and Rainbow Brite till she couldn’t take it any more!  After Nicole told me that I would always be near and dear to her, she explained she was having her own baby.  So on July 21st, she gave birth to a beautiful son and named him Seth Jordan.  For me it was like having a baby brother, being that we were about 8 years apart!

In those first couple of months I remember playing ‘house’ with him, and learning myself at such a young age how to be a mom!  I started young, that is for sure.  I learned how to change my first diapers, feed him a bottle, and rock him to sleep when he needed cuddling and a nap!  I think I became one of the youngest babysitters of all time, with supervision of course!  Essentially, you could say that through the years I helped raise him, as Nicole did for me.  I was there through the tee ball games, the marriage of Nicole to his step dad Chad, and the birth of his little brother and sister just a few years ago.  There are so many memories and I can’t believe that it went by all so fast, a bunch of my favorites are of him coming to college and participating in Sibs N’ Kids weekend with me!  Others lately have included him being an usher in our wedding, watching him play football and baseball, and traveling out west together to be at his ‘Aunt’ Kathy’s wedding!

Like Nicole, it is hard to comprehend that her son is almost 18 years old and will be entering into his senior year.  After talking with Seth and having just one of our many heart-to-heart’s through the years, he said he is looking forward to this next year.  He wants football and baseball to go well, but more importantly he has that all too big decision of what to do next.  Currently, he is debating whether or not to attend college (possibly on scholarship), enlist in one of the many branches that defend our country, or go to college AND be apart of one of those branches of defense.  Whatever decision he chooses, he knows that I am one very proud Aunt, and couldn’t have been more blessed capturing some of his senior portraits while out in Wyoming!  Gushing on the inside…hope you like them!

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

Seth, I wish you the best in this next year!  Take in every moment, because life moves at the speed of light sometimes.  One minute your graduating high school and then the next your married with a baby on the way…kinda like the best Aunt you could ask for!  I love you and can’t wait to see where this life takes you!
